Climate catastrophe and youth mobilisation

Wrapping up 2023

2023 is coming to an end, and what a year it has been! Youth mobilising all over the region, global warming records and new visions for the future. Let’s look back at what has happened.

“The ReGeneration 2030 Foundation ends the year 2023 more stable than ever, with a motivated team, a clear vision and goals for the upcoming years as well as a strong network of collaborators and supporters from around the Nordic and Baltic Sea region.” - Ugnė Budriūnaitė, Acting Secretary-General

Successful events

Copenhagen was the first place the ReGeneration 2030 team met physically for the year. We are working remotely for the majority of the time, and these events often represent the highlights of the year. In April, we participated in the Nordic Youth Democracy Festival Ungdommens Folkemøde NORD, where we networked with youth from all over the Nordic region to talk about environmental issues, democracy, and youth power.

Our annual youth summit ReGeneration Week took place in August and gathered 80 youth to strategise and capacity-build the youth environmental movement. With workshops, cultural activities, and intergenerational dialogues, the youth participants stated that they found new allies in the region, and learned new skills that they will bring home to their local community. Read more about our reflections and successes of the week in this blog post.

A clear path ahead

ReGeneration Week traditionally hosted our annual board election, and you can meet the new board here.

After deep discussions and reflection, the path ahead is now clear, and the strategy for 2024-2026 is adopted. We are really excited to continue growing and pushing for change in our region, with the support of our partners and funders. Read more about our new strategy here.

The fight continues

The year 2023 was dedicated to strengthening and building the resilience and efficiency of the ReGeneration 2030 Foundation both from inside and outside. We would like to give a big thank you to everyone who was involved, our funders and partners for supporting us, and our fantastic volunteers and youth who are the change we need to see in this world.

The window to avoiding climate collapse is closing rapidly - now so more than ever. We experienced the first days of over 2 degrees of warming this year and witnessed record heat month after month. This is the fight of our lives, and let’s take care to rest up and come back with fresh energy for 2024 to continue. Together, we are unstoppable. Another world is possible!
