This is our 2024 Wrapped: what we’ve been up to, what we have achieved and what we have learned in another year of building youth power for a just sustainable transition in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region.
So, how did we do?
19 of us graduated from the Catalysts for Change Programme
At the beginning of 2024, we kick-started the Catalysts for Change programme, which united youth from seven countries — Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. This hybrid online learning programme that equipped new activists with the knowledge and skills they need to make change happen in their community. 19 out of 25 Catalysts aged 16–27 completed the program and gained an understanding of climate justice and system change approaches as well as grew practical skills in a range of panels and workshops that covered climate science, systemic change, and activist strategies.
127 of us travelled to Åland for ReGeneration Week 2024
Then, in the summer, we united 127 youth activists from 14 countries and autonomous regions in Mariehamn for ReGeneration Week 2024. Over 100 of us worked together to understand each other and the challenges we face in building a sustainable future, and elevated our calls by collectively penning an Open Letter to our region’s leadership. Through 14 workshops and 4 panel discussions, participants confronted the realities of climate collapse, imagined sustainable futures, and strategised pathways for systemic change.
316 of us signed the Open Letter
Our work building solidarity through the Open Letter continued after the Week’s end. We worked together to invite other groups, individuals, and movements to sign in support, and in the end, secured support from over 300 signatories—including local Fridays for Future groups, Extinction Rebellion, Natur og Ungdom (Norway), and Children and Youth Major Group to UNEP (the United Nations Environment Programme). The letter called on regional and national leaders to take bold action, not just to address climate change, but to dismantle the systems of injustice that fuel it. It was a call to stop greenwashing, to reject false promises, and to build a future where the planet and its people are valued over profit and power. Just one week before COP29 in Baku, we sent the letter to policymakers across the Nordic and Baltic Sea regions.
So here’s to you!
We are grateful to everyone in our organisation; all the Board Members, volunteers, Catalysts for Change. We are also grateful to all our partners; you who who signed the Open Letter, brought your movements to Åland to build power together, and everyone who supports us in the background. You contributed over 40 hours of in-kind labour from our partner organisations giving advice and supporting side events and evening programmes. You bring the resources, networks, and power we need to challenge the systems that harm people and the planet. Together, we’re building the fight for our generation’s future, and a better world for all.
A big thank you from Keira
“As we wrap up 2024, let’s take a moment to think about what we’ve built together. This year wasn’t just a list of events or projects—it was about people coming together, rolling up their sleeves, and doing the hard work of imagining and fighting for a better future.
But let’s be real: the work is nowhere near done. The climate crisis isn’t slowing down, so neither can we. Building power takes time. It’s not easy, but nothing worth doing ever is.
To everyone who showed up this year, in big ways and small, thank you. Whether you came to ReGeneration Week, signed the Open Letter, joined a workshop, or even just shared your ideas, you’re part of this movement. And the future belongs to all of us.” - Keira Dignan, Secretary-General of ReGeneration 2030
